2013 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships

Posted on 21/04/2013

15th - 21st April

Henley finished 54th in both the Masters and Open categories at the Aussie Titles.  We had 22 members travel to compete at Aussies in the single and double skis, flags, beach sprints, 2km run and surf boats.

This was Lindy Lewis’s first Aussie Masters and it was a pretty good one.   After a sudden change to the schedule the 30-34 sprint race was called with most not fully warmed up, Lindy finished 3rd, not quite able to catch 2nd place.  The next day were flags, Lindy’s favourite event, knocking each competitor out one by one before finally edging out the girl from Bondi for the Gold medal.

Congratulations Lindy bringing home 2 medals, what an incredible achievement. Well done.

Scott Robinson, Greg Fletcher and Damien Grant from the ski area had a much tougher field and had to battle the tricky surf conditions. Scott & Greg finished 3rd and 4th in their quarter-finals of the 40-44 single ski, with Greg going on to make the final.  Both then teamed up in the Double Ski event and finished an awesome 1st in their semi-final, but were unable to back it up in the Final.  Damien competed in the 35-39 single ski and all 3 teamed up for the 110yr ski relay.

Lindy and the ski boys celebrated with a BBQ at the North Kirra Tourist Park at the conclusion of the event.

Our medallists this year at the Australian Titles were:

GOLD

Womens 30-34 Beach Flags: Lindy Lewis

BRONZE

Womens 30-34 Beach Sprint: Lindy Lewis

Congratulations also to Emma Cassidy in the Female 2km Beach Run who made it through to the Grand Final.

I would especially like to thank Tara McElhinney and Scott Robinson for kindly volunteering to be the Team Managers at this year’s event.  They both conducted themselves professionally and with a high degree of integrity both before and during the event.
