The Second Senior Carnival of the year was held at Southport on Sunday 8th December. The Henley SLSC was well presented with 35 competitors on the beach and in the water area, the weather was fine but again no significant waves to get excited about. There were no Boats competing at this carnival due to interstate competitions in Victoria.

At the end of the day with the preliminary scores issued we finished in 5th place with approximately 113 points after being in First position early on in the day, Imagine where we may have finished if the Boaties were competing as well at this carnival.

The first event of the day was the 2 km run where Henley recorded the following results
- Open women, Suzie Ashton 1st
- Open Men’s, Garry Ashton 2nd
- Open Men’s, Brett Roe 3rd
- U15, Jake Butterfield, 6th
- U15 Ed Gates, 1st

This was followed by the March Past where the Henley March Past team with the help of 4 Under 15’s put on a brilliant display and finished 5th not bad when you consider the 4 teams in front of us have either been Australian Champions/ medallists and State Champions in recent years.

On the beach Henley were well represented in the u15, U17 and open events. We had competitors in flags, sprints and beach relays and made finals in all areas, with the following top 8 results from the finals,

One minor mishap for the day 1 x lost racing board somewhere between Cement Hill and the Port Noarlunga Bakery, Quentin is still checking the road verges and we expect him back at Henley in a week or so.

Many thanks to all our officials and helpers on the day and we look forward to the next Senior Carnival in some surf at Goolwa in January.
