With 12 Henley participants at Cosy Corner they were dwarfed in numbers against the 1,400 kids who turned up on the beach on Friday. They were not dwarfed in how they competed and the spirit that they showed today. A nice little 1 footer greeted the kids with weather that was perfect for competition.
Olivia and Will competed in their first carnival as U8’s and these two were pumped. Olivia bought home a blue ribbon in the wade relay and Will bought home the bacon in the board relay picking up 4 spots to finish 5th.
Kayla, Nathan and Zani in the U12’s. Oscar flew solo in U11’s and Demi and Jarrod in the U10’s. Ed, Cooper, Siobahn and Lauren were waving the U14 flag.
All of our kids showed that the winter training has paid off making the finals and finishing in the top 10 of all the finals. Our Henley kids showed that our surf skills on the boards are up there with the best of them from Victoria.
A big thanks to all parents, competitors and other clubs who welcomed our kids in to their teams. Our kids made many new friends while making up composite teams and they our Vic counteparts now know the famous Henley ladders.
Day 1 down. Wave Warriors tomorrow at Ocean Grove with 4-6 ft expected and Anglesea Senior carnival on Sunday. Bring it on.
