Thank you for your interest in being part of the juniors program at Henley.
By joining the Henley SLSC Juniors, you will be part of the original Surf Life Saving Club in South Australia! Established in 1925, we share a proud history of service to the community both in Henley and across the state and look forward to celebrating our centenary together very soon.
As the premier beach destination for Adelaide, Henley is a beautiful and safe beach with easy access, a strong inclusive community, and facilities for all ages.
All Juniors are welcomed – these programs are passionately supported and built on participation and enjoyment as a pathway to becoming a rounded participant in surf lifesaving, competition & athlete development, and careers beyond.
Participation in surf lifesaving and our Henley FIRST values have many benefits for children:
The Australian Institute of Families collects longitudinal data on children and teenagers growing up in Australia. Part of their research involved looking at the impact of prosocial behaviour on mental health in children and adolescents. The study found that children aged 13-17 years who volunteered had a 28% reduction in mental health symptoms and emotional difficulties.
Our Nippers program is for children aged 5 to 13 years and follows Surf Life Saving Australia’s National Junior Development Program, which is designed to ensure children have fun at the beach, while participating in lessons that will provide them with a pathway to become a qualified surf lifesaver and a junior competitor (surf sport).
Our Youth program is for 14 to 18 and is designed to further develop both the lifesaving and sport of lifesaving skills of our youth members while facilitating involvement in any number of the many pathways that surf lifesaving offers.
Our Snippers program supports children with intellectual and physical disabilities to experience the beach, have fun, make friends, and boost overall well-being.
Surf Sports showcase the skills and physical abilities required to save a life. Unlike any other sporting code in the world, the intent of competition is to aid in developing the skills necessary to carry out Surf Life Saving’s core purpose – saving lives.
Our junior programs are designed to be inclusive and carry forward the proud tradition of teaching water safety and the vital service of surf lifesaving. Whilst we hold these values and priorities throughout our programs we also foster and encourage competitive representation at local, regional, state and national levels in a range of disciplines including Surf events (swimming, board paddling, Iron person) and Beach events (sprints, flags, running), as well as Lifesaving and Pool Rescue individually and as members of teams.
To encourage your representation of the Club in competition, Henley SLSC offers, as part of the full membership for U8-U18, to subsidise entry fees into the season’s surf carnivals (capped at 3 carnivals, excluding State and National championships).
Henley SLSC membership fees for season 2024/25 and associated information will soon be available here. SA Sports Vouchers are accepted.
